Go Loco in Mexico! 9 May 2008

The rich culture and history of Mexico is believed to have begun with its first inhabitants 20,000 years before Columbus arrived, and today it’s a magical contrast of the seedy and the surreal. Whatever you’re thirsty for – climbing Mayan ruins in misty forests, carving up the wall of the Mexican Pipeline, tequila-fuelled partying or searching methodically for the perfect taco – Mexico will slake your thirst with a long, cool shot of memorable experience.

Mexico’s names alone might whet your appetite. It’s dotted with archaeological sites from the Olmecs, the Zapotecs, the Maya and the Aztecs, from Tijuana in the northwest to Tulum in the southeast. And before or after your volunteering Xperience you can go surfing in Cancun, diving in Cozumel, hiking in Puerto Vallarta or partying in Mexico City and the famous and glitzy Acapulco.

Mexico is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world; perfect if you want to increase your familiarity with this widely spoken romance language. Its emerging economy marks it as a burgeoning world power, but it’s held back by social problems – and that’s where our volunteers come in. Mexico is nothing short of the ideal destination, and it’s just waiting for you to drop in and make a difference.
